l sistema político inglés es producto de una larga evolución histórica al pasar de una monarquía feudal, a una monarquía absolutista para desembocar en una monarquía parlamentaria, donde el Parlamento es la pieza clave del sistema político. En 1689 fue promulgada la Carta de Derechos (Bill of Rights) donde se establecieron nuevas limitaciones al poder real y adquirió mayor poder el Parlamento. En el siglo XX se fortaleció la Cámara de los Comunes, y la Cámara de los Lores perdió poder aunque conservó la función jurisdiccional como corte final de apelación. Sin embargo, con las reformas de 2009 quedó suprimida esta función que tenía y fue asimilada por la Corte Suprema. Una de las características del régimen político británico es la existencia del Gabinete Sombra, también llamado la Leal Oposición de su Majestad; esta figura se da en los sistemas parlamentarios y tiene su origen en el Reino Unido. Cuando se celebran las elecciones, el líder del partido mayoritario es llamado por el monarca para que forme gobierno, acto seguido el líder del segundo partido asume el papel de oposición y se denomina Gabinete Sombra, su función no es meramente la de criticar a aquellos que están en el poder sino también busca la forma de reemplazarlos.

he English political system is the product of a long historical evolution going from a feudal monarchy to an absolute monarchy, and then, to a parliamentary monarchy. Parliament is the key of the political system. In 1689, the Bill of Rights was enacted and set new limitations on royal power, and Parliament gained increasing strength. In the twentieth century, the House of Commons strengthened and House of Lords lost power, but retained the judicial function as the final court of appeal. However, with the reforms of 2009 was abolished this function and assimilated by the Supreme Court. One feature of the British political system is the existence of the Shadow Cabinet, also known as Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, this figure is given in parliamentary systems and has its origin in the United Kingdom. When elections are held, the leader of the majority party is called by the monarch to form a government; then the leader of the second party assumes the role of opposition, called Shadow Cabinet. Its function is not merely to criticize those who are in power but also look for ways to replace them
